My name is Marcela Bonturi. I graduated as a Psychotherapist from FMU University in Sao Paulo Brazil. In 2010 I moved to Ireland & became a member of the Psychological Society of Ireland. I now work & live in Dublin.
Work with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): an excellent approach to work with panic disorders, anxiety, phobias, compulsions, among other types of disorders.
Born & raised in Sao Paulo I have always been very interested in understanding people and their minds, how we think and what leads us in certain directions and where our emotions come from. I become so interested and passionate about these concepts that I was drawn into learning and studying everything I could find in this area.
When I started college I was fascinated by these concepts specifically behaviourism and the way that thoughts come into our minds that then creates emotions that lead to certain behaviours. I thoroughly enjoyed the learning experience. I wanted to learn more and more about human behaviour & understand my own emotions. I struggled a lot with anxiety as a teenager and only after starting college I started to understand these concepts. As students we undertake therapy to understand our own minds first and also grow as humans & professionals.
I am a mother of 2 children who were both born & raised in Dublin. I speak Portuguese with my two boys as I find it is important to communicate with them in my own language. I like to say that “I left Brazil but Brazil lives in me”. I am proud of being Brazilian and I feel privileged at being able to provide services to my community abroad. As a Brazilian I can understand your pains and challenges.
When I first arrived in Ireland I didn’t know anybody, I didn’t speak English and I was living with people from different nationalities and backgrounds. I remember how challenging this was but now I realise how it has helped me to become who I am and my job is to encourage people to embrace change & to become a better version of themselves.
Now I work with people from many different cultures as Ireland attract people from all over the world for its beauty, culture, safety & lifestyle.
I am a specialist in CBT & fascinated about the efficiency of the treatment. Depending on the diagnosis and the length of treatment can vary.
I regularly work with people in vulnerable situations and I understand that there is a reason why all people seek treatment. When people are unable to help themselves they often feel isolated and depressed and they are frequently dealing with grief in many different ways. This can be a result of the ending of a relationship to the loss of a loved one or job.
People find in therapy a space where they are heard, understood & accepted. There are no judgments. My job is to support & to guide people through their lives & leave the person better off from where they started.
