Who is Marcela Bonturi?
My name is Marcela Bonturi. I graduated in Psychotherapy at FMU University in São Paulo, Brazil. In 2010, I moved to Ireland and became a member of the Psychological Society of Ireland. I currently live and work in Dublin.
Practice in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): an excellent approach to treating panic disorders, anxiety, phobias, compulsions, and other types of conditions.
A person passionate about psychology
Born and raised in São Paulo, I have always been deeply interested in understanding people and their minds: how we think, what drives us, and where our emotions come from. I became so fascinated by these concepts that I was led to study and learn everything I could in this field.
When I entered university, I was fascinated by behaviorism and by the way thoughts arise in the mind, creating emotions that lead to specific behaviors. I took full advantage of that learning experience. I wanted to learn more and more about human behavior and better understand my own emotions. During adolescence, I struggled with anxiety, and it was only after starting university that I began to understand these concepts more clearly. As students, we also went through therapy to better understand our own minds and to grow both personally and professionally.
I am a mother of two children, both born and raised in Dublin. I speak Portuguese with them because I believe it is important to communicate with my children in my native language. I like to say: “I left Brazil, but Brazil lives in me.” I am proud to be Brazilian and feel privileged to be able to provide services to my community abroad. As a Brazilian, I can understand their pains and challenges.
When I arrived in Ireland, I didn’t know anyone, I didn’t speak English, and I lived with people from different nationalities and backgrounds. I remember how challenging it was, but today I realize how much that experience helped shape who I am. My work is to encourage people to embrace change and become a better version of themselves.
I currently work with people from different cultures, as Ireland attracts people from all over the world with its beauty, culture, safety, and lifestyle.
More About Me
I am a specialist in CBT and deeply fascinated by the effectiveness of this treatment. Depending on the diagnosis, the length of therapy may vary.
I regularly work with people in vulnerable situations and understand that there is always a reason why someone seeks therapy. When a person cannot help themselves, they often feel isolated and depressed, and frequently go through grieving processes in different forms — whether it is the end of a relationship, the loss of a loved one, or even the loss of a job.
Therapy offers a space where a person is heard, understood, and accepted. There is no judgment. My role is to support and guide each individual on their journey, leaving them in a better place than when they first began.
